scammed by indecisiveness

“This may not be the right job for me.”

I replied, “ok. Just hand your apron and you’re good to go.”

Ofcourse there was more conversation to this, however I am slowly realizing how much time & money went down the drain in pursuit to find potential in a person. Actually, also no. In pursuit to also give them a chance.

I thought wrong.

Throughout this application via email with a cover letter, there was eagerness to fill in the Barista position.

There was Barista experience, however I don’t really trust places in Hilo, so the response to leaving the workplace was simply acceptable.

The thought of this previous place lacking in training may have been a perfect opportunity to show how training was a priority on my end.

I was told that the other job is willing to switch schedules according to ours. Later on, I was asked if giving the other job’s 1 month schedule was a helpful way to create ours.

1 week after training, she was sick. Training schedules had to move.

The next week’s schedule, an allergy occurred in the morning. I responded she doesn't have to come, 2 minutes into her scheduled shift, she was still able to come. But left after opening.

Those were the signs.

Many times, I speak about strategizing our lives in our 20’s. It’s a very vital time in our life that may either set you up for success or hold you back till you're 50. Upon having a conversation during the time that I wanted to let her go, I spoke about choosing which paths to take. Where to exert one’s energy and how going with the flow leaves you lost.

Her conclusion the following week?

“This may not be the right job for me”.

Multiple chances that cost $600. I felt scammed. Some applicant who showed interest in a job, only to lie about availability & her drive to do excellently in the position. The problem really is, that she chose corporate at my expense. Saying that she will value what she learned… simply leaves my mouth agape.

Ofcourse it should! People would pay hundreds of the dollars to obtain the education I aim to teach my team! I’ve built pour over the rainbow according to the standards I wish I had when starting! I should rather be paid for training you! I feel betrayed. I wanted to be optimistic. Be happy for her. Choosing corporate to climb the ladder and pursue your art. It is a good strategy.

BUT WHY REALIZE THAT AT MY COST. LOST PEOPLE DRIVE ME NUTS.

Blasphemy.

$600 + my patience was the cost of not knowing what she wanted.

Why was my time important? More than what I paid through payroll? Why it feels like I lost income?

I should’ve worked on clothes instead of fixing the schedule 3 times to accommodate her. Clothes being the primary source of my living expenses.

I ask now…how do I gain from this experience?
