the only one

Friends, Romans, Countrymen. Lend me your ears. I am finally growing a team. Tables are turning & tumbling. I revisit the times I hated my employers, and the times I felt undeserving of being hired by them. Finally putting myself in their shoes. These days, I think to myself….

“Do I want a member who’s someone like me? Must’ve been a pain in the ass to Brian & Lindsey”,

“What did Mizuho see in me?” &

“Damn, Chef Nick was really kind to give me a chance”

I realize now the challenge it is to be on the receiving end of criticisms as I step away from being the operator. This is also the reason why owners refrain from delegating. Keeping a standard while being away. Nobody but the owners understand the hardships before the opportunity to hire existed.

A really vital part of sustaining a business is through one’s team members. While that’s a given, making sure that the team participates in the growth & standards of a business as well.

I find myself reprimanding more often. Not because I want to, but because I need to.

Staying on the same page of becoming the best, is to be the only one.

The only one who presents one’s self professionally by words, actions, and physical looks. The only one that cares about representing our partners through the highest hospitality standards & quality. The only one that focuses on flavor more than quantity. The only one that thinks of fairness. The only one that values education.

Keeping that standard amongst my team may be a challenge, however I believe that with an aligned mindset, we can make it work.

These standards may be rare to coffee shops, however this may be the reason why we will make it.

Maybe this time, I’m learning the difference of a leader and an owner.

If any of the Pour Over the Rainbow employees read this, know that I hired you because I had faith in you.
